2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
How hard it is to have the mindset that the troubles we go through are supposed to be a happy occasion in our lives. The loss of a job, the loss of a friendship, the death of a loved one, pain…the troubles of this life go on and on…
The good news is, though, that each hard situation we go through is ordained by God with a purpose for our lives. If we’re having happy-go-lucky lives, we hardly have the chance to grow in our relationship with God. The purpose for the troubles we go through is not merely to beat us down, but for us to grow our trust in God. If you think about it, the purest of joys is drawing closer to God, even if it is because of a hard circumstance. When God leads us through “the valley of the shadow of death,” it only makes us lean on Him more and more. God wants to build endurance in us, and He wants our faith to grow. For if we trust in the happinesses of this world, we will never find true comfort.
